“There’s nothing that’s more difficult for me than disappointing the Xbox community”
As you may have already seen, Xbox Boss Phil Spencer has earlier today taken part in a very candid interview with the Kinda Funny Xcast crew over on YouTube. As we’re still very much into Redfall‘s launch week, the game was of course a hot topic on the show, and its release was discussed at length.
When asked about the state of Arkane’s shooter at launch, Phil tackled the topic head on, going as far as saying that he is personally upset by some of the reaction he’s seen so far.
“There’s nothing that’s more difficult for me than disappointing the Xbox community. I’ve been a part of it for a long time, I obviously work on Xbox [as] head of the business, I have a lot of friends get a lot of feedback. And, just to kind of watch the community lose confidence, be disappointed – I’m disappointed. I’m upset with myself.”
Phil goes on to reiterate that the critical response “was not what we wanted”, and that the team is disappointed by the launch reception of Redfall.
“I think back to the announcement of 60 frames per second, then we weren’t shipping 60 frames per second, that was kind of our punch in the chin – rightfully, a couple weeks ago. And then seeing the game come out and the critical response was not what we wanted. It’s, disappointing. So, kind of pick myself up; what can we learn? how can we get better?”
The head of Xbox has even gone as far as saying that Xbox “needs to improve” its development process after what’s happened here, so, it’s safe to say that Redfall will probably be used as a case study at Microsoft for years to come.
At least there seems to be a good selection of games coming to the platform real soon, as reiterated by the Xbox Boss earlier today.
